Sports & Activities
At Wentworth, learning extends well beyond the classroom. Our sports and activities programme is an integral part of school life, supporting students’ physical wellbeing, confidence, teamwork, and leadership development. Opportunities are designed to be inclusive and progressive, allowing students to develop skills, interests, and responsibility from Primary through to College.
Sport at Wentworth
Sport is a valued part of the student experience, with opportunities for students of all abilities to take part. Our approach emphasises participation, skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship, while also providing pathways for competitive involvement.
Depending on interest and season, students may participate in sports such as netball, basketball, football, volleyball, athletics, cross country, tennis, and badminton. Students represent the school in inter-school fixtures and local competitions where appropriate, supported by staff and external coaches. Physical Education lessons complement the co-curricular sports programme by building fundamental movement skills, fitness, and confidence.
Swimming and Water Sports
Aquatic activities form an important part of the Wentworth programme and are delivered through two distinct experiences.
Swimming Sports are held at a local pool for students in Years 5–13, offering both competitive and participation-based events. These events focus on personal challenge, skill development, and inclusive involvement in a structured and well-supervised environment.
Water Sports Day, offered to students in Years 7–10, takes place at local beaches and makes full use of nearby marine facilities. The day is designed around participation and teamwork rather than competition, with students taking part in paddle boarding, kayaking, and sailing. This experience allows students to develop water confidence, practical skills, and an appreciation of the local coastal environment.
House Sport and School Events
House activities play a central role in fostering school spirit, inclusion, and connection across year levels. Alongside traditional sporting events such as Athletics Day and Cross Country, students also participate in Mathex, which encourages teamwork, problem-solving, and academic challenge in a house-based format.
These events provide opportunities for all students to contribute, celebrate strengths beyond sport alone, and take pride in their house. House events reinforce Wentworth’s values while promoting healthy competition and a strong sense of belonging.
Outdoor Education and Camps
Camps and outdoor education experiences are a key feature of the programme for students in Years 4–10. These experiences are designed to develop independence, resilience, collaboration, and personal responsibility, while allowing students to engage with learning beyond the classroom.
Programmes may include residential camps, outdoor and adventure-based activities, and team-building challenges. All experiences are carefully planned and supervised, with a strong focus on safety, wellbeing, and positive participation.
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
Wentworth offers students the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels. The Award provides a structured framework for personal development through physical activity, skills development, service, and adventurous journeys. Participation encourages commitment, perseverance, and independence, and is internationally recognised as a significant personal achievement.
Leadership Through Activities
Leadership development is embedded throughout school life, with opportunities available from Primary through to College. Students are encouraged to take on leadership roles appropriate to their age and stage, including class responsibilities, house roles, team captains, and service opportunities.
At senior level, Year 13 Prefects participate in a Leadership Camp, which supports their transition into senior leadership roles and focuses on teamwork, responsibility, service, and leading by example within the school community.
Together, our sports and activities programme supports balanced development — encouraging students to stay active, build character, and develop leadership skills from Primary through to graduation.
