School Life Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care at Wentworth

At Wentworth, we believe that academic success is only possible when students feel safe, supported, and valued. Our comprehensive pastoral care system ensures that every student is known as an individual and receives the guidance they need to thrive both academically and personally.

EVERY STUDENT MATTERS

Known, Valued, Supported

With a deliberate cap on student numbers, Wentworth ensures every child is known by name. Our pastoral care structure includes dedicated form teachers, year level deans, and a guidance counsellor who work together to support each student's wellbeing and development. Our house system - Churchill, Hillary, Rutherford, and Sheppard - creates vertical connections between students of different ages, fostering mentorship opportunities and a strong sense of belonging within the wider school community.

Primary School Pastoral Care

In the Primary School, pastoral care is embedded within the classroom.

The classroom teacher is the primary point of contact for each child’s wellbeing, academic progress and daily care. Through regular interaction and strong relationships, teachers are well placed to support individual needs and communicate closely with families.

The House system complements classroom pastoral care through House activities and events, helping younger students develop a sense of belonging to the wider school community.

College Pastoral Care

In the College, pastoral care is delivered through a structured House and Tutor Group system.

Students are placed in a daily Tutor Group within their House, providing regular pastoral check-ins and continuity of care. Tutors monitor attendance, wellbeing and engagement, working closely with Deans to support students through their College years.

The Assistant Head of College – Pastoral Wellbeing has overall responsibility for pastoral systems and student wellbeing within the College. This role provides strategic leadership, ensures consistency of practice, and works closely with staff, students and families to promote a safe, inclusive and supportive environment.

A Shared Commitment

Across both the Primary School and the College, pastoral care at Wentworth is underpinned by:

  • The House system as a foundation for belonging and school identity

  • Strong relationships between students and staff

  • Clear expectations and consistent support

  • A focus on wellbeing, personal responsibility and respect

  • Open communication with families

Our pastoral approach is designed to provide continuity as students move through the school, while ensuring care and support remain age-appropriate at every stage.
